November/December 2025 Newsletter Doing all things in Jesus’ Name Paul tells us in Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Luke shows that in Acts 11:26, the disciples doing the acts and works of Christ were first called Christians. The disciples were doing many things in the name of Jesus. They were even told by the religious leaders to stop speaking and teaching in the name of Jesus (Acts 4:18). Previously, Peter informed his listeners that there is no other name under heaven whereby we may be saved (Acts 4:12). The Holy Spirit is the presence and power of God that is constantly in our midst. God’s presence is eternal, He goes before us, walks beside us, and constantly has our back. Recognizing the presence of the Holy Spirit is so important for our lives. The Holy Spirit is with us to console us, guide us and protect us. I have often referred to the Holy Spirit as a gentleman who waits on us to daily welcome his involvement into our life. The Holy Spirit will never force himself into your life. We need to make it a habit little by little to acknowledge the Holy Spirit and worship his presence daily in the midst of all things. One way we can begin is by doing all things in the name of Jesus. Every moment is an opportunity to live in Jesus’ name. All the everyday stuff of life can be filled with his presence-if you are. Start by thinking about what it would mean to do each of these activities in Jesus’ name: -Waking up -Greeting those you see first thing in the morning -Eating -Driving -Working outside the home, or caring for children -Shopping -Watching tv -Doing households tasks -Reading -Going to sleep Focusing on Jesus’ presence with you as you go through daily activities throughout the day; this will help keeping our thoughts focused on Christ all day long. Let Thanksgiving begin! Don’t get me wrong, I love the changing of the seasons; the trees are beautiful, the nights become longer and you can just sense that nature is tired and will be resting soon, but November is the official month dedicated to giving thanks, an attribute that we should display all year long. There is a great adage that goes “give thanks for everything before you ask for anything”. May that be our mantra as we turn the page on the calendar. May we be thankful people and a thankful church! For what should we be thankful, let us count the ways: That we have a God and savior who loves us – Our faith in Jesus that supports our decisions - The breath of life that sustains us each day – Health that we have, such as it is – The family that we have been given – Friends who support and encourage us - The trappings of life, shelter, nourishment, transportation – A church where we can belong and participate – A church staff that attends to the administrative details – A pastor who has a heart for God and the word, who leads by example, who believes in outreach and puts his time where his heart is. October was Pastor Appreciation month. Its not a holiday as much as an opportunity to express gratitude for the effort that our Pastor puts into the life of our congregation. As important as this may be, Pastor Appreciation month doesn’t get as much recognition as Sweetest Day and probably gets less attention. Pastor appreciation should be like Christmas in the sense of “why can’t we celebrate Christmas all year long?” Wouldn’t it be just as appropriate to live a life of thankfulness each day of the year? Big things are always made up of an accumulation of little things. Give thanks for each little thing that transpires throughout your day. Actively look for the good and give thanks; even in what you consider bad, be thankful that it wasn’t worse. People do not tire of being thanked. Expressions of thanks are often the light in an otherwise dreary day. The Bible tells us, “In all things, give thanks”. As Christians, we believe in the Word of God. Belief is the foundation of our decisions. Throughout each day, may we express the thanks that we feel in our hearts.Amen, friendsBob Graham GMC COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING SERVICE On Sunday, November 23rd there will be a Community Thanksgiving Service at Christ Church of Louisville, 600 E.
